Artist Statement
Statement of Truth
by Carolina Melis
Art began for me as technique—ars as method, as a way of shaping thought into form. It’s how I learned to observe, to build, to express. But today, in the age of intelligent systems, art is also a position—a way of navigating complexity with intention.
I use AI not to replace intuition, but to extend it. It’s a tool I choose, direct, and sometimes resist. I don’t chase perfection—I look for tension, for edges where tradition and technology meet. My work blends craft, composition, and visual storytelling with generative systems, always rooted in human authorship. To work with AI is to shape a medium that doesn't come with rules—it requires me to define them. I use AI not as an answer, but as a mirror, a catalyst, a co-author. I choose it with care. I direct it with doubt. I override it with instinct.
This is my truth: I believe in poetic systems. I believe in process as message.
Art is no longer just what we make, but how—and why—we make it.
That’s the archive I want to leave behind. In a world of infinite output, I hold onto intent.
Because meaning is not generated—it is chosen.
