The claim to an AI-generated image is not to show a ‘truth’ (whatever ‘truth’ may mean). This is not necessarily the case with a photographic image, even if only what happens in front of the lens can be captured on a carrier material, be it the chip or the negative. Nevertheless, even a photograph is not necessarily objective; there is often an agenda behind it. In addition, the photographer can subversively influence the message of each photo through the choice of light, focal length, his or her distance and angle to the photographed event, the edit of the images, etc. – even without tools such as Photoshop, photographic images have always had manipulative potential. The fact that an Ai-artist can not only create contemporary images like a photographer, but also past-referential images, adds to the unreliability of memories in photographic-looking images today. The psychologist Elizabeth Loftus has proven that these do not have to be factual and are very easy to manipulate, both by others and by ourselves.   ‘Can photography be objective? I work as a photographer - and I love it. However, photography has limits; I can show a lot with it, but there's also a lot I can't show working lensbased. AI tools help me to visualize the invisible and to do this with a photographic look.
