Artist Statement
Generative AI has the potential to be an extension of traditional photography - different games played with the same pieces, more than post-photography. I try to produce images that use the same references, that seem instantly familiar - the stark black and white, the framing inspired by classic fashion photography, the subject itself (pleats and fashion)... the strong black-against-black tricks you into looking closer, but as you do, you can see the fabric doesn't work, such a dress wouldn't exist. Is it still enjoyable to look at it ? Would you take particular notice if it were printed in a magazine you're casually browsing - maybe this one ?
AI Art experience
AI is a wonderful tool to explore the global subconscious and try all sorts of new things. It is quite exciting to arrive at a moment when people are beginning to figure out this medium's own language and what it is good for - what can these images mean ?
Personal experience
I've been into computer screens before I've been into TV screens, and I've been fascinated by the digital world ever since. I've also spent countless hours in museums and art exhibitions around the world over the years ; so when I started seeing he first AI images appear I could see that something was going on and I wanted to be part of it.
New hybrid, in-between forms are being born out of our ever-changing relationship with tech ; exploring them gives me a way to reflect on how humanity is developing in symbiosis with tech. It's not all good ; but we should be led by curiosity more than fear.
Unexpected thought
When I started working with AI I conceptualized it as something alien ; when you spend long enough with it you realize that it isn't - it is us, really, just in another form. A strange version of it, maybe - but more doppelganger than golem.
Prove you are human
No machine would have the IP rating it takes to survive the amount of coffee I drink.
