AImagine – Photography and Generative Images

Curated by Delphine Dumont, Paul de La Marandais, Michel Poivert, Rodolphe de Spoelberch, and Gabriela Torres Freyermuth, the exhibition features 18 international artists including François Bellabas, Jordan Beal, Mathieu Bernard-Reymond, Philippe Braquenier, Brodbeck & de Barbuat, Michael Christopher Brown, Delphine Diallo, David Fathi, Nicolas Grospierre, Isidore Hibou, Claudia Jaguaribe, Robin Lopvet, Alisa Martynova, Pascal Sgro, and Alexey Yurenev, among others

AImagine is a pioneering group exhibition at Hangar Art Center exploring the intersection of photography and artificial intelligence. Through 18 projects-six selected from an international open call-artists use generative AI to revisit and reimagine historical events, figures, and collective memory. The show investigates how AI tools can both challenge and expand the boundaries of photographic practice, blurring the lines between fiction and reality, and raising questions about authenticity, authorship, and the future of visual culture. Highlights include interactive installations (such as François Bellabas’ Protomaton, an AI-powered photo booth), reimagined archives, and works that critique both the possibilities and limitations of AI image generation. The exhibition positions AI as both a creative collaborator and a mirror of our cultural and historical biases, offering a critical and poetic look at the future of the image.
