The group exhibition "Dreaming Beyond AI: Portals Behind the Algorithm" brings together works by Biarritzzz, Guilherme Bretas, Hiba Ali, Kira Xonorika, Mac Andre Arboleda, Maithu Bùi, Noam Youngrak Son and Zainab Aliyu, developed within two residency chapters of the transnational project "Dreaming Beyond A" in collaboration with ifa. Through video, installation and digital art, the exhibition explores how AI technologies reinforce social inequalities while opening portals to other possible futures. The exhibition is curated by the Dreaming Beyond AI collective: Iyo Bisseck, Nushin Yazdani, and Sarah Diedro Jordão.
In a time when algorithms capture attention, filter information and influence decisions, Dreaming Beyond AI: Portals Behind the Algorithm asks how we might reclaim time and relationships from the systems that govern our lives and are built on violent structures.
The exhibition at ifa-Galerie Stuttgart brings together for the first time the artistic research and collective experimentation of two residency chapters (2023 and 2025) realised with the Dreaming Beyond AI collective as part of ifa’s touring programme, presenting works that unfold across digital and analogue spaces.
The participating artists address AI’s role in perpetuating colonial legacies, resource extraction, racism, sexism and other forms of structural violence, while proposing speculative tools, narratives and rituals for resistance and care. By combining visionary fiction, community organising and critical practice, Dreaming Beyond AI invites visitors to imagine other forms of time, relation and world-making beyond dominant AI narratives.
