Emi Kusano's museum solo exhibition turns the whole venue into one installation, with the new works Memory Metabolism, a large installation of stacked TV monitors, the sculpture Mementoid and the print series Ornament Survival: Future Remains.
Emi Kusano works with generative AI and explores nostalgia and identity through pop culture and new technologies. Alongside the new works, around 25 prints from her series Ornament Survival are on view, including previously unexhibited works. The series has been shown internationally, including at Art Basel.
The exhibition’s key visual carries the line “AI wa lens no nai camera”: AI is a camera without a lens.
In her forthcoming book End of Nostalgia, due out in Japanese from BNN on 18 November 2026, Emi Kusano traces the history of AI art through her own practice and asks what nostalgia produces in the age of AI.
Hyper Museum Hanno is the contemporary art museum inside Metsä Village in Hannō, Saitama. The exhibition is closed from 12 to 14 January 2027.
