FILE São Paulo 2026: Intercreativity gathers roughly 160 works by artists from 48 countries exploring the shared ground between human and artificial intelligence, including work by Frederik Duerinck, Hanna Haaslahti, Dennis Peter, Weidi Zhang and Rodger Luo, Sophia Bulgakova, and Amir Admoni and Fabito Rychter.
Ricardo Barreto, Paula Perissinotto, Clarissa Vidotto, and Victor Sardenberg curate roughly 160 works by artists from 48 countries for this edition, moving between bodies, code, networks, organisms, environments, and imagination.
"Intercreativity does not seek definitive answers, but invites audiences to recognize, within the most complex systems, what remains open, indeterminate, and alive," the curatorial team writes.
Frederik Duerinck, an artist and filmmaker, presents Algorithmic Perfumery. Visitors provide memories and emotions; an AI system reads these alongside other personal references to propose a one-of-a-kind scent. Weidi Zhang, a new media artist and designer, presents A Walled City with Rodger Luo: a multi-agent AI system reinterprets images submitted by visitors and turns them into architectural spaces, so a virtual city keeps expanding as new participants join.
Dennis Peter, an Indian interaction designer and artist credited as Non-Linear in FILE's own program listing, presents Transmissions into the Void, an installation that turns light and sound into an experience about the decay of information over time. Sophia Bulgakova's Inevitably Blue guides visitors through the gentle movement of a swing lit in color and sound, toward a state suspended between imagination and memory, unmoored from ordinary reality. Gravidade VR, by Amir Admoni and Fabito Rychter, follows Osório and Benedito, two brothers who have spent their whole lives in an endless fall; gravity becomes a metaphor for existence and time, and for what it means to change.
The festival opens with "Human Creativity versus Artificial Intelligence," a public lecture by mathematician Gregory Chaitin and epistemologist Virginia Chaitin, asking how far artificial intelligence can reproduce human creative processes, and whether forms of knowledge, discovery, and imagination exist that escape algorithms entirely.
