Refik Anadol. Latent City is a solo exhibition by Refik Anadol built from artificial intelligence models the artist trained on millions of images of cities including Stockholm, Seoul, Berlin, New York, and Portland, centered on a live-generated installation driven by historical and real-time data from Bruges.
The exhibition marks Refik Anadol's first solo show in Belgium and inaugurates BRUSK, a new museum in Bruges's Museum Quarter that opened to the public on 8 May 2026, shown alongside the museum's other opening exhibition, Bigger Picture. Connected Worlds of Bruges, 900-1550.
"Flemish Primitives alongside AI art, the painter's hand next to the data network. The combination of 'Bigger Picture' and Refik Anadol is no coincidence but a statement," said Nico Blontrock, alderman of culture for the City of Bruges.
Refik Anadol Studio spent the past decade training machine learning models on more than five million images of cities worldwide, developing algorithms that treat the metropolis as a continuously evolving form. For BRUSK, the studio built a ten-metre installation generated from historical and real-time data drawn from Bruges's medieval street networks, architecture, and art collections, shown alongside related digital paintings referencing Stockholm, Seoul, Berlin, New York, and Portland.
