London-based duo Studio Above&Below presents two installations that employ AI, generative audio-visuals, and mixed reality to explore the unseen systems governing resource regeneration and quantum phenomena.
The first piece, Regenerative Symphony, is an immersive installation envisioning a future reliant on recycling critical minerals essential for advanced technology. It uses AI and generative audio-visual patterns to challenge heavy extraction norms, with its algorithmic model rooted in the Lotka-Volterra model to illustrate resource interdependence and the symbiotic balance found within ecosystems.
The second work, QUANTUM LENS, is an immersive mixed-reality artwork created in collaboration with leading quantum scientists that explores quantum technologies through three distinct chapters: Quantum Entanglement, Quantum Probability, and Quantum Tunneling. These phenomena, which cannot be witnessed with the naked eye, are made visible as poetic, interactive virtual sculptures through the use of a mixed-reality headset that functions as a symbolic lens. Commissioned as part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025, the work was originally envisioned for the exhibition Cosmic Titans: Art, Science and the Quantum Universe at Lakeside Arts, University of Nottingham.
