The exhibition questions the limits and possibilities of conventional photography and AI-generated images. It presents works by outstanding photographers and artists, including members of the German Photographic Academy (DFA). The presentation is structured thematically: Photography as a school of seeing with Torsten Schumann, Kurt Buchwald, Peter Truschner and Peter Neusser; The photographic portrait as interpersonal interaction with Ursula Kelm and Laurence Chaperon; The documentary photo as authentic testimony, represented by Patrik Budenz and Thomas Knoefel; while the focus is on the photo as a historical document with Claus Bach. Linn Schröder, Jackie Baier and Matthias Leupold lead us through photography as a reflection on one's own life, and Claus Stolz, Klaus Elle, Gottfried Jäger and Jiří Šigut explore the theme of photography = light x matter. Boris Eldagsen's The Electrician (2022), an AI-generated image, and Miles Astray's Flamingone, a photograph, mark the transition to promptography, a new discipline in AI art. In promptography, new realities are created by AI. Inventing New Bodies features works by Clint Enns, Placenta Shake and Arik Weiszmann. In ‘No humans or animals were harmed in the making of this’ AI.S.A.M and Wuh.ey present their work. In ‘Promptography as a school of ideas’ Kevin Abosch, Emi Kusano, Andreas Müller-Pohle, Vitaly Komar and the group ‘Plus, Minus, Comma’, Rosemberg, Marat Guelman and Jason M. Allen show their positions. In Interaction with the Inner World, we see Infrarouge, Sabine von Bassewitz, Merzmensch. Last but not least, Text as the Source of the Image with Vladimir Sorokin. This exhibition invites you to reflect on photography and its role in contemporary image production, and on the so-called ‘truth of the moment’ in comparison to images generated by AI.
