IMAGE REMAINS is a solo exhibition by Dutch artist Rosa Menkman at Drugo More’s Filodrammatica Gallery in Rijeka, presenting a new chapter in her long‑term research into “impossible images”. The show follows an angel‑like figure as she maps her attempts to reclaim agency within contemporary image processing systems, probing the compromises, losses and glitches that occur when reality is captured, compressed and computed.
»Some images outlive their original meaning. They become myth. As they circulate through the realms of image processing, they may lose their provenance, shift in aesthetic, or speak for someone, or something else."
Building on Rosa Menkman’s work around glitches, resolution studies and the BLOB of Impossible Images, the installation constructs an ecology of compression complexities—pixels, blocks, vectors and wavelets—that both seduce and resist legibility. By foregrounding the points where images break down or become compromised, IMAGE REMAINS invites visitors to consider where critical and artistic agency can still be exercised within computational image regimes, and how artists might push against the default settings of contemporary visual technologies.
