SHIFT. AI and a future community” is a joint exhibition by Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and museum Marta Herford that explores artistic perspectives on artificial intelligence as a key technology of the 21st century. AI systems already shape political, economic and social processes, often invisibly, and are associated with both great expectations and major concerns.

The title “SHIFT” points to a profound change in how we imagine community, with humans, nature and technology entering into new cooperative relationships. Eight international artistic positions make the complex interconnections of AI tangible, addressing real and artificial corporeality, digital surveillance, biological intelligence and hybrid life forms, social power relations, language technologies, immortality and NFTs. The works repeatedly raise the question of ethical responsibility in dealing with AI and invite visitors to critically reflect on how these technologies are transforming everyday life and the future of living together.

The exhibition is accompanied by “Studio 11. Space for Art Education” and an extensive program developed in cooperation with the Stuttgart Center for Simulation Science (SC SimTech) and Cyber Valley Stuttgart/Tübingen.
