The World Through AI

A major summer exhibition at Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt bringing together around twenty-five international artists whose works explore the cognitive, psychological, political, and ecological dimensions of artificial intelligence, through around forty works created over the last decade. Participating artists: Nora Al-Badri; Nouf Aljowaysir; Timo Arnall; Erik Bullot; Julian Charrière; Grégory Chatonsky; Kate Crawford & Vladan Joler; Daniel Felstead & Jenn Leung; Joan Fontcuberta; Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst; Agnieszka Kurant; Occitane Lacurie & Barnabé Sauvage; Trevor Paglen; Inès Sieulle; Hito Steyerl; Sasha Stiles; Taller Estampa; among others.

The exhibition occupies both exhibition spaces at the Schirn and features around forty works, including video installations, graphic works, sculptures, and photographs. Participating artists include Nora Al-Badri, Nouf Aljowaysir, Julian Charriere, Gregory Chatonsky, Kate Crawford & Vladan Joler, Holly Herndon & Mat Dryhurst, Agnieszka Kurant, Trevor Paglen, Hito Steyerl, Sasha Stiles, and the collective Taller Estampa, among others.

The show examines a broad spectrum covering not only resources and environmental factors, but also aspects of perception, machine vision, facial and emotional recognition. The works address microwork, the establishment of alternative historical narratives, visions of the future, and also the phenomena of "AI slop" and "slopaganda" (the use of AI-generated images as a new form of political propaganda). A series of time capsules serves as little curiosity cabinets, linking the present to the past and embedding current changes through new technologies in a historical context.

The exhibition is organised by Jeu de Paume, Paris, in collaboration with Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt. Curators: Antonio Somaini, in collaboration with Katharina Dohm, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt. Supported by Stadt Frankfurt.
