Sasha Stiles draws on Jangar, a Kalmyk-Mongolian epic, in new works that carry poetry across voice, script, code and generative systems, from 3D-printed objects and cyanotypes to encoded beadwork and hybrid scrolls.

Jangar has survived migration, persecution, deportation and diaspora. Sasha Stiles, a first-generation Kalmyk-American poet of Oirat-Mongol descent, returns to it to ask how language and memory are carried forward.

A recurring family of sculptural forms runs through the exhibition. They emerged from years of generative imaging and are gradually coming together into a latent alphabet that moves between code and object.

Writing about the exhibition, curator Cecilia Alemani connects the series Analog Binary Code and Cursive Binary to A LIVING POEM, the self-rewriting poem Sasha Stiles presented at the Museum of Modern Art from 2025 into 2026.

In her words, "the present exhibition at SAPAR CONTEMPORARY transfers the generative logic off the screen and into the palm, into code one can hold in the hand.”

Sasha Stiles has worked with AI since 2018. Her collection Technelegy (2021) was written in dialogue with a personalized AI model. REPETAE received an Award of Distinction in the Prix Ars Electronica's AI in Art category in 2024, and WORDS BEYOND WORDS won the Lumen Prize Literature & Poetry Award in 2025.
