Work in Progress (WIP)

Participating artists include Chris Baily, Richard Boehnke, Alison Cheng, Craftwork, Ifeoma Ebo, Adelle Yingxi Lin, Deborah Morris, Zahra Saleki, and Momo, a coding cavapoo whose project plays with authorship, automation, and the absurdity of modern labor.

Work in Progress (WIP) is a citywide interactive art festival and art fair in New York that focuses on artistic process rather than finished presentation. For its first New York edition, WIP uses several floors of THE BLANC in Midtown Manhattan as temporary studios where more than forty artists create work on site, meet visitors in their working environments and present pieces at different stages of completion over four days.

The festival was founded by Nōvo Collective, a public-art-focused initiative that explores how artworks emerge by bringing preparation, experimentation and revision into public view.

One project centers on Momo, a 2.5‑year‑old cavapoo described as a dog that codes, whose practice tests how far authorship and automation can be redistributed between animal, human and technical systems through a set-up that links physical input, prompt design and software tools. Across the festival, the works encourage visitors to observe production as it unfolds, to track decisions and adjustments in real time and to reflect on how human and non-human agents participate in the making of culture.
