Description
Awe, the silent force of nature. A moment, suspended in time, in which the beauty of a flower or the flight of a bird becomes a sigh of the universe. An ephemeral presence etched in the soul’s memory, revealing the eternal in the momentary. In the stillness of nature, we find a deep vibration that connects us to something far greater than ourselves. A moment of contemplation that invites the soul to pause, to breathe, and to recognize the greatness of what lies beyond our reach. "Admirari" captures that visceral emotion, that awe before the sublime and unpredictable aspects of nature. Through the simplicity of a gesture, the stillness of a flower, or the flight of a bird, the work invites us to remember our fragility and our interconnectedness with the natural world. Each element, frozen in its purest form, becomes a metaphor for permanence, the present, and the balance that prevails beyond our understanding. Here, the ephemeral becomes the eternal, and in each detail, we find the reflection of an awe that connects us to the very essence of life.
Process
The Power of Awe in Nature. "Admirari" arises as a reflection on the awe that nature awakens in its purest and most stable form. Inspired by Hokusai's Kacho-ga (花鳥画) series, this project explores how natural elements become symbols of timeless stability, where beauty is preserved beyond the passage of time. Awe, that emotion that shakes us before the sublime and unexpected beauty of nature, invites us to pause and contemplate what is beyond our control. In every petal, in every flight, we find a reminder of our connection to something much greater than ourselves. This project explores how that awe inspires the creation of works and technologies that seek to capture the ephemeral, preserving the essence of the natural world in an attempt to make the infinite tangible. "Admirari" celebrates awe as a profound act of connection, an emotion that reminds us of our smallness in the vastness of the eternal, and our ability to find meaning in the simple, the natural, and the sublime.
Tools
The work emerges from an exploration between nature, traditional art, and technological innovation. Inspired by Hokusai’s iconic Birds and Flowers series (Kachō-ga), it reinterprets his vision through artificial intelligence. The piece is built from LoRAs trained with species of birds and flowers represented by Hokusai, allowing a small-scale AI model to generate highly detailed visuals that preserve the essence of his subjects from a contemporary digital lens. Using Stable Diffusion as the generative engine and TouchDesigner for real-time processing, Admirari combines these elements into a collection of 100 static pieces—organized into 10 sub-series—that present nature not as fleeting, but as a symbol of permanence and wonder. Each image is a meditation on the connection between the tangible and the eternal. Birds and flowers are arranged not merely as representations, but as emblems of admiration and timeless beauty. The project invites viewers to rediscover the emotional impact of nature through a technological mirror, merging the delicacy of Hokusai’s legacy with the precision of AI. Admirari is a reflection on how natural beauty and digital art can coexist, creating a bridge between past and future through awe.
